X-Wing Trench Run

Few moments in Star Wars are as famous as the trench run, and this 2019 set revisits it with a 52-piece X-Wing. There are no minifigures, only the fighter.

Description

Down the trench

The climax of A New Hope sends Rebel pilots racing along a narrow trench on the surface of the Death Star, chased by Darth Vader and his TIE fighters, in search of a single exhaust port. Luke Skywalker's final run, guided by the Force, is one of the defining scenes of the whole saga. This small set carries that moment in its name. It is less a recreation of the scene than a tribute to it, built around the ship that made the attack possible.

An unusual set number

Instead of the usual digits, the catalogue lists this set as XWING, rather than a numeric code, which can make it harder to track down. Beyond that, the data tells a clear story: 52 pieces, 26 different elements and no minifigures. Half the parts are unique, which keeps the short build interesting, while the other half repeat across the symmetrical wings. It is the kind of set that often ends up loose in a drawer, so it is worth knowing exactly what belongs to it.

Palette and play

Light bluish grey tops the colour list, followed by white, dark bluish grey and transparent clear. That leans slightly greyer than many X-Wing models, but it still reads unmistakably as a Rebel fighter. Once built, the ship is small enough for a child to swoop around the room and sturdy enough to survive a few trench runs of its own. On a collector's shelf it adds one more variation to what is probably the most frequently built Star Wars ship of all.

Parts and possibilities

The full inventory of all 52 pieces is listed below, so you can check a copy or rebuild the fighter from a mixed collection. If you want to go further, the What can I build? tool compares your bricks with other sets and highlights the ones you could already complete. Grey and white parts like these appear in a huge share of Star Wars ships and in many other themes, so even a small set like this adds genuinely useful stock.

FAQ

What is the trench run?
It is the Rebel attack along the Death Star trench at the end of A New Hope, which ends with Luke Skywalker destroying the battle station.
Why is the set number XWING rather than digits?
The catalogue simply lists it under this letter code instead of a numeric set number, and this page uses the same code.
What are the main colours?
Light bluish grey, white, dark bluish grey and transparent clear.
