Norse myth in brick form

Most of the theme was released in 2005 and 2006, and the set names read like chapter titles from a saga. Each one sets a band of Vikings against a creature drawn from Norse mythology: the Fenris Wolf, the Midgard Serpent, and dragons named Fafnir, Nidhogg and Ofnir. The creatures are brick-built and often take up as much of the box as the ships, catapults and wagons the warriors use against them. The catalogue's date range stretches to 2025, but every one of the largest sets comes from the first two years.

From a lone warrior to a fortress

The range scales neatly. Viking Warrior challenges the Fenris Wolf (7015-1) is the smallest at 76 pieces, followed by Viking Boat against the Wyvern Dragon (7016-1, 112 pieces) and Viking Catapult versus the Nidhogg Dragon (7017-1, 225 pieces). In 2006 came Army of Vikings with Heavy Artillery Wagon (7020-1, 312 pieces) and the Viking Double Catapult versus the Armored Ofnir Dragon (7021-1, 505 pieces). The flagship is Viking Fortress against the Fafnir Dragon (7019-1) from 2005 with 1,036 pieces, ahead of the longship in Viking Ship challenges the Midgard Serpent (7018-1, 582 pieces).
