Games was a short-lived line of board games in which the board, the playing pieces and the dice are all built from bricks. It ran from 2009 to 2013 and covers 47 sets.

About Games

A die you can rebuild

The signature piece of the range is the buildable die. Its faces are covered with small tiles that can be swapped, so the same die can show numbers, colours or symbols depending on the game. Players move microfigures around the board: tiny single-piece figures that are much smaller than a minifigure. The boxes also encouraged players to change the rules and rebuild the board, which gave many of the games a home-made feel.

Original designs

Several games had no film or TV licence behind them. Creationary (3844-1) from 2009 has 341 pieces and works like a guessing game in which one player builds and the others work out what the model is meant to be. From 2011, the Heroica games sent heroes through dungeons and castles in a fantasy setting; Castle Fortaan (3860-1) is one of the larger boxes with 312 pieces. The largest set in the whole theme is Story Mixer (50004-1) from 2013, with 425 pieces.

Licensed titles

Film and television franchises supplied the rest. Harry Potter: Hogwarts (3862-1) arrived in 2010 with 332 pieces. Star Wars Battle of Hoth (3866-1, 305 pieces) and Phineas and Ferb (3868-1, 281 pieces) followed in 2012. Middle-earth is covered twice: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (3920-1) has 394 pieces and The Battle of Helm's Deep (50011-1) from 2013 has 338.

Collecting them today

Because the range stopped in 2013, most copies now change hands second-hand, and small parts such as die tiles and microfigures are easy to lose.
