What is in the box

Every SPIKE core set centres on a hub that runs the programs, plus motors and sensors that plug into it. Pupils write code in an app, starting with Scratch-style blocks and, on SPIKE Prime, moving on to Python. Typical projects include robots that follow a line, machines that sort by colour and models that measure distance or force. SPIKE sits within the Educational and Dacta theme and is designed for lessons where several groups build at the same time.

Two lines for two age groups

SPIKE Prime (45678-1), with 532 pieces, is the set for older pupils and relies mostly on Technic beams, axles and connectors. SPIKE Essential (45345-1) from 2021 has 453 pieces and targets primary schools with a smaller hub and more classic bricks. The largest boxes in the theme are the Prime expansions: the SPIKE Prime Expansion Set (45680-1) from 2020 with 603 pieces and its second version (45681-1) from 2021 with 604. Both lines can be extended with ordinary bricks and Technic parts, which leaves room for larger class projects.

Smaller kits and extras

The rest of the theme is made up of supporting sets. The SPIKE Prime Elements Set (2000457-1) from 2020 has 374 pieces, the SPIKE Essential Introductory Set (2000458-1) from 2021 has 112 and the Personal Learning Kit Prime (2000480-1) from 2022 has 110. The oldest entry is the SPIKE Prime Marketing Kit (2000456-1) from 2019, with 150 pieces.
