Community life in bricks

The educational Town sets take familiar subjects from everyday life, such as roads, emergency services, ports and airports, and package them for group work. Rather than one model per box, they supply a large mix of bricks, vehicle parts and figures so that several children can build at the same time and act out scenes together. The theme sits within the Educational and Dacta range.

A catalogue weighted towards the 2000s

Although the first sets date from 1980, seven of the eight largest appeared between 2006 and 2011. The Transportation Set (9321-1, 1,226 pieces) arrived in 2006, followed a year later by the Town Developers Set (9322-1, 1,875 pieces) and the Micro Building Set (9324-1, 1,657 pieces). The only older entry among the biggest is the Theme Set (9353-1) from 1991, with 942 pieces.

Rescue, space and the harbour

2010 was a busy year: the Rescue Service Set (9314-1) with 1,498 pieces, the Space & Airport Set (9335-1) with 1,187 pieces and Vehicles (9333-1) with 940 pieces all date from then. The Harbor Set (9337-1) followed in 2011 with 907 pieces. Together they cover many of the jobs and places a young builder will recognise from their own town. Firefighters, police, pilots and dock workers are exactly the kind of roles that lend themselves to role play in a group, which is what these boxes were designed to encourage.
