About Arctic

Science on the ice

Arctic is one of City's expedition subthemes. Rather than streets and shops, it offers ice floes, research stations and vehicles built to cope with snow. The sets tell stories of scientists studying the ice and its wildlife, supplied by planes, ships and heavy trucks. White, orange and translucent light blue dominate the palette, which makes the Arctic sets easy to recognise on a shelf and easy to combine across years. Many sets also include animal figures such as polar bears or seals, and blocks of ice that hide something to discover.

Three waves of expeditions

The first wave in 2014 included Arctic Base Camp (60036-1) with 733 pieces and Arctic Icebreaker (60062-1) with 718. The 2018 return brought Arctic Mobile Exploration Base (60195-1) with 786 pieces and Arctic Supply Plane (60196-1) with 707. From 2023 the sets were presented as Arctic Explorer, starting with Arctic Explorer Ship (60368-1) at 817 pieces and Arctic Explorer Truck and Mobile Lab (60378-1) at 489.
