About Trains

A railway for the town

Trains have long had a loyal following among builders, and City has kept them in the range for two decades. The sets are built at the same minifigure scale as City's roads and buildings, so a train layout can run straight through a town. Motorisation has changed over time, from remote-controlled battery trains to later models steered by Bluetooth, which matters if you are mixing old and new sets. Most train sets include a loop of track, so you can run the locomotive straight out of the box, along with drivers and railway workers.

Freight is the backbone

Most of the largest sets carry cargo rather than passengers. Cargo Train Deluxe (7898-1) from 2006 has 857 pieces, Cargo Train (7939-1) from 2010 has 839 and Red Cargo Train (3677-1) from 2011 has 827. The 2014 Cargo Train (60052-1) grows to 888 pieces, and Heavy-Haul Train (60098-1) from 2015 has 984. Loads range from containers to logs and vehicles, often with a crane or forklift for transferring cargo at the trackside.
