Why the snowspeeder matters

In The Empire Strikes Back, the snowspeeders are all the Rebels have to slow the Imperial assault on Echo Base. They skim low over the snow, fire on the AT-AT walkers and, in the film's most famous trick, wrap a harpoon cable around a walker's legs until it topples. Set 4500 captures the two-seat airspeeder behind that moment. With three minifigures in the box, you have a crew for the cockpit and someone left on the ground to defend the base.

A redesign in new greys

The original snowspeeder model appeared in 1999, and this 2004 set is its redesign. Besides white and black, it uses dark bluish grey and light bluish grey, the shades LEGO® introduced around that time in place of the older greys. The result looks cooler and closer to modern sets than its predecessor. If you own both versions, the difference in tone is obvious side by side.
