Same speeder, different box

In 2004 a number of sets from the first three films were issued in Original Trilogy Edition packaging, and the redesigned snowspeeder was among them. That is why the catalogue lists it twice: once in a blue box and once here. If you only want to build the model, either version gives you the same airspeeder. If you collect sealed or boxed sets, the packaging is the whole point, and knowing which version you have makes a real difference when buying, selling or cataloguing.

Spotting the one-piece difference

The catalogue data shows a small gap between the two entries. This edition lists 216 pieces and 93 unique elements, while the blue-box release lists 217 and 94. Comparing the two parts lists side by side is the easiest way to see which element accounts for the difference. It will hardly affect the finished model, but it matters if you are checking a used set for completeness. In that case, make sure you are working from the list that matches your box.

Hoth in white and grey

The snowspeeder is the Rebels' main weapon during the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, flying low to strike at the Imperial walkers and bringing one down with a harpoon and tow cable. White dominates this model, matching the snowfields, with dark bluish grey and light bluish grey for the mechanical detail and black for contrast. With three minifigures you can crew the speeder and still have someone to hold the line at Echo Base.
