Description

What a Microfighter is

The Microfighter range takes well-known ships and squashes them into short, chunky shapes built around a single pilot. Wings get shorter, noses get blunter and the cockpit becomes the centre of attention. The result is less a scale model than a toy with personality: sturdy, quick to build and easy to hold while swooshing it around a room. The X-wing was an obvious candidate for the first wave, and this version keeps its four wings and bright hull clearly readable.

The ship behind the model

In A New Hope, X-wings lead the Rebel attack on the Death Star, and Luke Skywalker fires the decisive shot from one. The fighter goes on to appear throughout the original trilogy and returns in later films in updated forms. For many fans it is simply the Rebel ship, which is why there have been so many versions of it over the years. A Microfighter is the smallest, most playful way to own one of them.

Building it

With 97 pieces but only 34 distinct elements, much of the build repeats. That is natural for a symmetrical craft, where each wing needs the same parts as its partner. The colour data shows white first, then light bluish grey, dark bluish grey and dark red, the last being the only real accent colour. Young builders will find the steps easy to follow, and experienced fans will be done within a short sitting and ready to start playing.
