A play set first

Unlike the display-focused Ultimate Collector Series, 7965 belongs to the regular Star Wars range, and that shows in its six minifigures. The idea is to put a crew on board and act out scenes, whether that is the escape from the Death Star in A New Hope or the flight through the asteroid field in The Empire Strikes Back. The exact figure line-up is listed on this page. When buying used, check it carefully, since figures from popular sets are often sold separately and may be missing from a bundle.

The look of a well-worn freighter

Light and dark bluish grey make up most of the model, with black and tan in support. The tan pieces add a touch of warmth that suits the ship's patched, second-hand character; on screen the Falcon never looks factory-new. The classic saucer shape with twin forward mandibles and the offset cockpit is the key to recognising it, and those are the features any version has to get right.
