Description

Helicopters in Technic

Helicopters have long been a favourite Technic subject. Rotors, fuselage and landing gear translate naturally into beams and axles, and the mechanics of a rotorcraft are fascinating to explore through building. The name Whirlwind Rescue nods to the rush of air a spinning rotor creates. Rescue helicopters are a familiar sight over motorways, mountains and coastlines, and this set captures that everyday heroism in a model that works both as a toy and as a display piece.

Early-1990s engineering

In 1991 Technic was still largely based on studded bricks with holes, which stack like regular bricks while accepting pins, axles and gears. The 517 pieces are drawn from 109 unique parts, so the build is varied and rarely repetitive. That also makes the set a useful source of parts once it has been taken apart. There are no minifigures included, which is typical for Technic of the period and leaves the helicopter itself as the star of the show.

Red for rescue
