The Battle of Hoth at the start of The Empire Strikes Back is one of the defining sequences of the saga. As Imperial AT-AT walkers march on Echo Base, Luke Skywalker leads a squadron of snowspeeders against them. Blasters are useless against the walkers' heavy plating, so the pilots wrap tow cables around their legs and bring them crashing down. That single manoeuvre made the snowspeeder one of the best-loved Rebel vehicles, despite its brief screen time.

Low, wedge-shaped and easy to recognise

On screen the snowspeeder is compact and wedge-shaped, with a pilot and gunner seated one behind the other. That flat profile is well suited to a micro build, since only a few parts are needed to suggest it. The 19 pieces come from 13 distinct elements, so some are repeated. The build is quick and the finished model is small enough for young hands to fly around the room, or to sit alongside other Hoth models on a shelf.

An uncommon transparent shade

Dark bluish grey, white, light bluish grey and trans-brown are the main colours. The white and greys suit a vehicle designed for an ice planet, while trans-brown is the only transparent colour and a fairly rare one in most collections. It is handy for tinted windows or darker glass in your own models. The rest of the parts are standard colours that slot easily into ships, vehicles and buildings once the snowspeeder is taken apart.
