The TIE Bomber is the Empire's answer to targets that fighters cannot handle alone. Instead of a single ball cockpit, it has two pods side by side: one for the pilot, one for the ordnance. In The Empire Strikes Back, bombers are sent into the asteroid field to flush out the Millennium Falcon, dropping explosives among the drifting rocks. It is only on screen briefly, but its lopsided shape makes it one of the most recognisable members of the TIE family.
