Trouble in the forest

In Return of the Jedi, AT-STs patrol the forests of Endor to protect the shield generator for the second Death Star. They look unstoppable at first, but the Ewoks bring them down with swinging logs, rolling tree trunks and simple traps, while Chewbacca manages to seize one and turn it against the Empire. The walkers also appear in The Empire Strikes Back, accompanying the larger AT-ATs on Hoth. Their chicken-legged stride makes them one of the most distinctive Imperial designs.

Balancing on two legs

A two-legged walker has to stand securely, and that is harder to achieve with only 48 pieces than it might seem. This gives the short build a little extra interest: the legs and body need to come together in a way that keeps everything upright. The finished model is small enough for a desk and sturdy enough for careful play. Next to a small AT-AT, it shows the size difference between the Empire's walkers rather nicely.

Shades of grey
