Description
Unlikely companions
These two droids sit on opposite sides of the galactic conflict. R2-D2 serves the Republic and later the Rebellion, while MSE-6 units are part of the Empire's everyday machinery. Putting them together has a touch of humour to it, since the most celebrated droid in the saga shares the set with one best known for running away. For fans of the droids that keep the Star Wars galaxy working in the background, it is a neat and slightly playful pairing.
R2-D2, the astromech
R2-D2 needs little introduction. The astromech repairs starships under fire, overrides locked doors and, in A New Hope, carries the Death Star plans to Obi-Wan Kenobi. He communicates only in beeps and whistles, which C-3PO usually has to translate, yet he is one of the bravest characters in the story. He appears in every film of the Skywalker saga, frequently turning up at the very moment the heroes run out of options.
MSE-6, the mouse droid
The MSE-6 is a small, boxy droid on wheels used aboard Imperial ships and stations for errands and simple maintenance. Its shape earned it the nickname mouse droid. In A New Hope one of them rolls up to Chewbacca on the Death Star, receives a roar in return and flees squeaking down the corridor. It is a moment of a few seconds, but it made the MSE-6 one of the most fondly remembered background droids in the films.
