Speed as a weapon

The A-wing was designed around one idea: speed. Its flat wedge of a hull carries two large engines at the back and very little else, which makes it one of the fastest fighters in the Rebel fleet. In Return of the Jedi, A-wings take part in the Battle of Endor, and one of them crashes into the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer Executor, sending the huge ship into the surface of the second Death Star.

A classic livery

White leads the colour list, followed by dark red, light bluish grey and black. That is the familiar look of the Rebel A-wing, with its pale hull and red markings. Among the 44 pieces are 22 distinct elements, exactly half, so the build repeats itself mainly where the two sides mirror each other. Dark red is less common in most collections than white and grey, which makes those parts a welcome addition for later projects.

Build it, then fly it

In keeping with the real ship, this model is quick: a few minutes and the fighter is ready to swoop across the room.
