The sharper TIE

In Return of the Jedi, the Empire sends TIE Interceptors against the Rebel fleet during the battle of Endor. They are faster and more aggressive than standard TIE fighters, and their look reflects that: instead of flat hexagonal panels, the wings are bent and pointed, giving the ship a much more predatory outline. That difference is what makes an Interceptor recognisable at a glance, and it carries over well to a model as small as this one, even with only 42 pieces to work with.

Only 14 different elements

Among the 42 pieces there are just 14 distinct elements, so on average each one appears three times. That is a very low number, and it comes from the mirrored layout of the fighter, with identical wings on either side. Building it feels methodical and calm, which suits younger fans well. Once you take it apart, you are left with small groups of matching parts, often more useful for your own designs than a scattered handful of one-offs.

An unexpected red

Light bluish grey tops the colour list, with black in second place. Both are exactly what you would expect for an Imperial fighter. Third comes red, a much less obvious choice for a TIE model, and trans-clear completes the main colours. In practical terms, the set gives you plenty of neutral parts, a few red elements that can add accents to other builds and some clear pieces that work as windows, lights or canopies.
