About Blacktron II
Swappable modules
The defining idea of Blacktron II is modularity. Many craft carry a detachable section, such as a cargo pod or a smaller vehicle, that can be removed and fitted to other models in the range. That encourages mixing and matching, and it rewards anyone who collects several sets. Visually the line kept the black hulls of Blacktron I but swapped the yellow for white and used transparent green canopies. Space Police II, launched in 1992, provided the opposition. Like its predecessor, Blacktron II is filed under Space.
Line-up highlights
Alpha Centauri Outpost (6988-1) from 1991 is the largest set with 406 pieces. Aerial Intruder (6981-1) has 267 and Spectral Starguider (6933-1) 212. From 1993 comes Super Model Building Instruction (6861-2), listed with 178 pieces. Smaller craft include Allied Avenger (6887-1, 100 pieces), Sub Orbital Guardian (6878-1, 75 pieces), Super Nova II (6832-1, 42 pieces) and Tri-Wheeled Tyrax (6851-1, 38 pieces).
