About Space Police I
Cops and cells
The first Space Police range answered the Blacktron faction, which had arrived two years earlier. Its black and blue ships carry detachable prison cells, so a captured villain can be transported to a base and handed over. That simple play idea gave the line a clear sense of purpose: patrol, pursue, arrest. All six sets were released in a single year, 1989, which makes this one of the shortest runs in Space.
Every set in the range
Mission Commander (6986-1) is the flagship at 477 pieces. Space Lock-Up Isolation Base (6955-1) follows with 252, then SP-Striker (6781-1) with 230 and Spy-Trak 1 (6895-1) with 152. Galactic Peace Keeper (6886-1) has 121 pieces, and Message Decoder (6831-1) is the smallest at 34. The Space Police name returned in later years with new ranges, which is why this first generation is known as Space Police I.
