The idea behind RoboRiders

Each RoboRider is a compact vehicle built around a single large wheel, with a character tied to a particular terrain. The names say it all: Swamp, Frost, Dust and Onyx each represent a different environment, while The Boss leads the group. The models use standard Technic axles, pins and beams, but they were designed to be built quickly and played with rather than to demonstrate complex mechanics. That makes them a good introduction to Technic parts for younger builders. RoboRiders belongs to the same wave of action-driven Technic sub-themes as Throwbot Slizer and Speed Slammers, all of which targeted play value around the turn of the millennium rather than the realistic machines Technic is known for today.
