About Throwbot Slizer
Two names, one line
Most sets carry a double name because the line was branded differently in North America and Europe. Turbo / City Slizer (8502-1), Jet / Judge Slizer (8504-1) and Scuba / Sub Slizer (8503-1) are typical examples. Each robot has a themed look and a throwing arm that launches small discs, which made the sets as much a game as a building project. The emphasis on posable, character-driven figures built from Technic parts is often seen as a step towards what later became Bionicle.
Combination packs
Two packs in the theme bundle several robots together. Robotops (8500 + 8501 + 8502 + 8503) (C8500-1) combines four figures for a total of 96 pieces, and Ultrarex (8504 + 8505 + 8506 + 8507) (C8504-1) groups four more with 88 pieces. Both date from 1999, when the first wave appeared, and the individual figures could be combined into a larger model.
The 2000 releases
The second year brought bigger models. Millennium/Millennia (8520-1) is the largest set in the theme at 137 pieces, followed by Blaster / Blaster Slizer (8523-1) with 89 and Flare (8521-1) with 44.
