How the calendars work

Every edition follows the same idea: 24 doors, each hiding a minifigure, a small vehicle or a festive build from the City world. Police officers, firefighters and townspeople meet snowmen, Christmas trees and presents, and by Christmas Eve the pieces add up to a small winter scene. In the catalogue, the calendars form a sub-theme of Advent, which in turn belongs to Seasonal, so you will not find them mixed in with the regular City sets.

Which years were the biggest

The 2021 calendar (60303-1) leads with 349 pieces, just ahead of the 2020 edition (60268-1) with 342. The 2018 calendar (60201-1) has 313 pieces and the 2016 one (60133-1) has 290. Close behind are 2022 (60352-1, 287 pieces) and 2015 (60099-1, 278 pieces). Two older editions also make the top eight: City Advent Calendar 2010 (2824-1) with 271 pieces and City Advent Calendar 2009 (7687-1) with 259. Piece counts have stayed within a fairly narrow band over the years. The set numbers tell their own story: the early calendars used four-digit numbers, while later editions moved into the 60000 range used by regular City sets.

A calendar collection, sorted

If you have opened several calendars over the years, the mini models have probably merged into one big box. The parts list for each edition shows exactly which pieces belong to it, which makes it much easier to separate one year from another. ‘What can I build?’ goes a step further and checks which calendars you could reassemble completely from the bricks you own, so an old edition can go back on display next winter.
