About Studios

Lights, camera, bricks

Most building themes show a finished story. Studios went behind the scenes instead: its sets contain camera dollies, lighting rigs, directors' chairs and painted backdrops, along with crew members ready to shoot the next scene. Several models include simple play functions that trigger effects on cue, such as collapsing walls or exploding scenery, so a take can be staged and repeated as often as you like.

Filming at home

The theme's flagship was the Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set (1349-1) from 2000. Its 450 pieces came with a small camera and editing software, allowing children to record their own stop-motion films on a computer. Companion sets expanded the studio lot: Explosion Studio (1352-1, 244 pieces), Movie Backdrop Studio (1351-1, 211 pieces) and Car Stunt Studio (1353-1, 168 pieces) each focus on a different kind of shot.

Monsters, vampires and dinosaurs

In 2002 the line took a turn towards horror. Scary Laboratory (1382-1) is the largest set in the theme at 503 pieces, joined by Vampire's Crypt (1381-1, 171 pieces) and Werewolf Ambush (1380-1, 114 pieces). Dinosaurs had already appeared in Dino Head Attack (1354-1, 95 pieces), and the Jurassic Park III sub-theme added two studio sets based on the 2001 film.
