About Mosaic
From fixed motifs to a personal portrait
The standout set is Personalised Mosaic Portrait (40179-1) from 2016, which at 4,502 pieces is the largest in the sub-theme. As its name suggests, it produces a portrait based on a personal image rather than a fixed design. Earlier sets used predefined motifs: 2003 brought Lego Mosaic Dino (k34432-1, 2,847 pieces), Mosaic Tiger (K34434-1, 2,217 pieces), Lego Mosaic Cat (k34431-1) and Lego Mosaic Johnny Thunder (k34433-1), the last two with 2,127 pieces each. Johnny Thunder is the explorer from the Adventurers theme.
Multi-picture kits
In 2007 two smaller kits took a different approach. A World of LEGO Mosaic 4 in 1 (6162-1, 286 pieces) and A World of LEGO Mosaic 9 in 1 (6163-1, 598 pieces) let you rebuild the same pieces into several designs, which makes them a gentle introduction to mosaic building.
