About Model Team
What set Model Team apart
Model Team sets were designed to look like scale models rather than toys. Detailed engines and cabs and a larger scale than ordinary town vehicles gave them a more grown-up character, and the theme appealed to builders who valued accuracy over play features. Minifigures play no part; the vehicle itself is the whole point. Many collectors regard the theme as a forerunner of today's vehicle models for adult builders.
The big rigs
Trucks dominate the line-up. Highway Rig (5580-1) from 1986 has 668 pieces, Whirl and Wheel Super Truck (5590-1) from 1990 has 1,064, and Mach II Red Bird Rig (5591-1) from 1994 reaches 1,173. The largest is Giant Truck (5571-1) from 1996 with 1,746 pieces, and Racing Truck (5563-1, 787 pieces) followed in 1999.
Cars and off-roaders
Magic Flash (5581-1, 787 pieces) from 1993, Big Foot 4x4 (5561-1, 749 pieces) from 1997 and Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Car (2556-1, 580 pieces) from the same year show how varied the theme became beyond lorries.
