About Stingrays
One year, five sets
The Stingrays faced the Hydronauts in the later part of Aquazone, the umbrella theme that had started with Aquanauts and Aquasharks in 1995. Their range is short: every set carries a 1998 date, and none appears in later years. In the story they take the villains' role, set against the explorers of the Hydronauts.
The line-up by size
Stingray Stormer (6198-1) is the largest at 412 pieces, with Sea Scorpion (6160-1) close behind at 305. The rest are much smaller: Sea Creeper (6109-1) has 79 pieces, Crab (6140-1) 78 and Recon Ray (6107-1) just 20. The names borrow from sea creatures, with rays, a scorpion and a crab all represented. Stingray Stormer and Sea Scorpion are the clear centrepieces, while the three smaller sets are quick builds that fit well into a larger underwater scene.
