About Make & Create

What you got in the box

Most sets in this theme are generous assortments of basic bricks, plates, windows, doors and wheels in a spread of colours. Some came with idea booklets or a few suggested builds, yet the point was always to let children invent their own houses, vehicles and creatures. Minifigures and specialised pieces play only a small role here. Because the contents were so general, the same tub could serve a young child stacking walls and an older one working on a detailed model. Bricoria lists 119 sets in the theme, released over eight years.

The big ones

Two boxes clearly lead the field: XXL 2000 (5491-1) from 2006 with 2,000 pieces and XXL 1800 (5517-1) from 2007 with 1,800. Behind them come the Build Your Own House Tub (3600-1, 1,201 pieces), the Deluxe Starter Set (7795-1, 1,104 pieces) and World of Bricks (6112-1, 1,004 pieces). Several sets, among them Create and Imagine (4013-1) and the Fun with Building Tub (4496-1), land on exactly 1,000 pieces. In brick boxes like these, the piece count often appears in the set name itself, as the two XXL boxes show.

Checking a second-hand tub

Tubs like these are common finds at car boot sales and in family lofts, usually mixed with bricks from other sets.
