About Construction

Industry at the heart of the town

Where other Legoland sub-themes focus on homes or emergency services, Construction is about moving material around. Many sets pair a vehicle with some kind of loading structure, so a lorry is never far from a hopper, conveyor or excavator. The designs are blocky and straightforward, built mainly from standard bricks, plates and wheels, and they predate the minifigure, which only appeared in 1978.

Quarries, conveyors and brickworks

The largest model is the Brick Yard (580-1) from 1975 with 216 pieces. The Gravel Quarry (360-1, 211 pieces) followed a year earlier, in 1974. Conveyance (1601-1, 200 pieces) from 1976 and the Conveyor Station (545-2, 170 pieces) from 1973 both revolve around transporting loads, while the Loader Hopper with Truck (351-1, 170 pieces) goes back to 1971 and is one of the earliest large sets in the group.

Diggers and road works

For machinery fans, 1976 brought two 159-piece sets: Excavator and Dumper (387-1) and the Road Construction Set (780-1). The Truck with Excavator (383-1) from 1973 is smaller at 102 pieces. Beyond these, the sub-theme is filled out by smaller vehicles that show how much could be suggested with very few parts.
