About Fire
Early days of a lasting subject
Firefighting has been one of the most enduring town subjects in brick form, and these Legoland sets are among its early examples. They come from the years before the minifigure, introduced in 1978, which is worth keeping in mind when you compare them with later fire stations: the focus lies on buildings and vehicles, not on crews.
Stations and vehicles
The earliest large model is the Fire Station with Mini Cars (347-1) from 1970, at 206 pieces. It was followed in 1973 by two bigger buildings, the Fire Station (357-1, 242 pieces) and the Fire House (570-1, 237 pieces). On the road side, the Fire Engine (374-2, 73 pieces) from 1971, the Fire Engine with Firemen (693-1, 72 pieces) from 1975 and the Fire Truck (485-1, 72 pieces) from 1976 keep things small and simple. The Rescue Helicopter, 62 pieces, is listed twice, as 691-1 from 1974 and 480-1 from 1975.
Building them today
Each set has its own parts list, handy if you want to rebuild a station from vintage bricks or check a secondhand copy for missing pieces. With only 12 entries, the sub-theme is also a manageable goal for collectors of early town sets.
