The Hospital and its rescue teams
The largest set is the Hospital itself, 230 pieces, which appears in the listings twice: as 363-1 from 1975 and 555-1 from 1976. Two 143-piece sets from 1976 bring air support into the picture, Helicopter and Ambulance (386-1) and the Rescue Set (770-1). Together they form the core of the sub-theme and show how emergency services were becoming a proper part of the town by the mid-1970s. Placed next to the Fire and Police sets of the same years, the Hospital completes a small emergency quarter.
Early ambulances
Before that, the range was made up of small vehicles. The Ambulance (338-1) from 1970 has 74 pieces, and another Ambulance (373-2) followed in 1971 with 65. In 1973 came two 37-piece sets, Rescue Units (460-1) and Ambulance and Helicopter (653-1). These are quick builds with a simple, boxy shape, typical of town vehicles in the years before the minifigure.
