About Supplemental
Built to top up
A supplemental set was never meant to stand alone. Its job was to extend what you already had, whether that meant more bricks in one colour or other elements your main set lacked. That practical role runs through the whole range, which stretches across almost three decades. With 92 sets, Supplemental is the second-largest sub-theme of Universal Building Set after Basic.
The 1986 colour series
In 1986 a series of Extra Bricks packs appeared, each dedicated to a single colour: Red (800-2), Blue (801-2), White (802-2), Yellow (803-1) and Black (804-1), plus a sixth pack in grey (805-1). Every one of them contains 62 pieces, which is also the largest piece count in the theme. For anyone wanting a single colour in quantity, that made the choice simple: pick the pack in the right shade.
A decade later
The idea returned in 1996 with Extra Bricks in Red (634-1) and Extra Bricks in White (635-1). Again each pack holds 62 pieces, showing how consistent the format stayed. Because every set in the theme is small, the full list is quick to browse, and the release years help pin down when a particular pack was available.
Why these packs still matter
For collectors, supplemental packs are a record of which bricks and colours could be bought separately. For builders, they are a reminder that a few dozen extra bricks can change what a collection is capable of.
