The RCX was the first Mindstorms programmable brick. In the education range it anchored 14 sets released between 1998 and 2005, most of them carrying the ROBOLAB name.

The biggest boxes
The ROBOLAB Starter Building Set (9780-1) from 1998 is the largest set here by a wide margin, with 1,712 pieces. Next come the Team Challenge sets: the original ROBOLAB Team Challenge Set (Serial) (9790-1) from 1999 has 727 pieces, while Version 2.5 appeared with a serial transmitter (9793-1, 2002, 835 pieces) and with USB (9794-1, 2003, 833 pieces). As the name suggests, the Team Challenge sets were designed for group work. The Robo Technology Set [USB Cable] (9786-1) from 2003 adds another 222 pieces.
Revisions over the years
RCX is a theme where the same idea returns in updated form. The ROBOLAB Amusement Park Set is listed three times, as 9725-1 from 1999 (248 pieces), 9725-2 from 2002 (270 pieces) and 9725-3 from 2005 (306 pieces). The move from serial to USB in the Team Challenge sets follows the same pattern. RCX belongs to Mindstorms within Educational and Dacta and was followed by NXT.
