About Service Packs
Spares by kit
Several packs are tied to a specific education product. In 2014 the StoryStarter range received three replacement packs: Settings (5003229-1, 515 pieces, the largest in the theme), Details (5003228-1, 256 pieces) and Character (5003226-1, 185 pieces). StoryStarter was designed for storytelling and literacy lessons, so these packs restock scenery, props and figures. Earlier, in 2002, Special Elements for eLAB Renewable Energy Set (970678-1, 315 pieces) and Special Elements for Team Challenge Set (970670-1, 288 pieces) provided the specialised parts of two larger kits. The naming makes the link explicit, since each of these packs states which set it was made for.
Spares by part type
Other packs are organised around a single kind of element rather than a product. From 2002 come Wheels (Tires hubs axle plates and bricks) (970684-1) with 184 pieces and Roof Tiles (970686-1) with 180 pieces, and in 2014 a pack simply called Bricks (5003232-1) added 209 pieces. Technic elements have a sub-theme of their own, filled with connectors, bushes and chain links. Names throughout are plain and descriptive, so the title usually tells you what a pack contains.
Why builders look here
Because service packs concentrate one type of part in quantity, they are useful well beyond the classroom. If a project calls for dozens of roof tiles or wheels, the parts lists on Bricoria show at a glance which pack delivers them. Roof tiles and wheels in particular run out quickly on bigger builds, and a pack of 180 or more goes a long way. Collectors of education sets can use the same lists to check whether a second-hand pack is complete. The theme spans more than three decades, so it also documents how the spare-part supply for schools developed over time.
