Racing and jousting

Every Speedor is a small machine wrapped around a single large wheel, with a minifigure riding on top. Pull the ripcord on the launcher, and the wheel spins up and races away. Many sets add something to aim at: ramps, gates, targets or obstacles that turn a quick race into a contest between two players. Sky Joust (70114-1, 117 pieces) and Sky Launch (70139-1, 111 pieces) show the idea well, while Banana Bash (70136-1) with 120 pieces brings in a gorilla theme. Each racer borrows details from its tribe, such as wings, fangs or manes.

Arenas and larger sets

The biggest box in the sub-theme is Eagles' Castle (70011-1) from 2013 with 372 pieces, the only set here that goes beyond a racer and a play piece. Ultimate Speedor Tournament (70115-1) follows with 246 pieces and offers a full competition setup. CHI Waterfall (70102-1), Royal Roost (70108-1) and Croc Chomp (70112-1) are each around 105 pieces. The remaining sets are smaller still, often a single Speedor with one character. Since every racer uses the same launch system, riders and play pieces from different boxes can be mixed freely, so a handful of small sets already makes a playable tournament.

Where Speedorz fit in

Speedorz is a sub-theme of Legends of Chima, alongside the main line and the buildable Constraction figures. The riders are tribe members from the story, so the small sets are an affordable way to add characters to a Chima collection. When buying used, check the parts list for the launcher and ripcord, as those are the pieces that make the set work.
