About Mixels
Tribes and waves
Mixels were developed alongside an animated series on Cartoon Network. The characters are grouped into tribes of three, each tribe with its own colour scheme and element, such as fire, electricity or ice. New tribes arrived in waves several times a year, which is why a theme that lasted only three years reached 123 sets. Each set contains a single character, typically built around ball joints, and the bold, cartoonish faces make them easy to tell apart.
Mix and Max
Because every Mixel uses the same joint system, two characters can be combined into a new creature, known as a Mix. Build with all three members of a tribe and you get a larger Max model. Swapping parts across tribes was encouraged, so there is no single correct way to build them. The instructions suggested a few combinations, but the real appeal lay in inventing your own, which set Mixels apart from figure ranges where each model has one fixed form.
Small by design
Piece counts barely vary. The largest set, Wuzzo (41547-1) from 2015, has 74 pieces, followed by Screeno (41578-1) with 73 and Footi (41521-1) with 72. Volectro (41508-1), Kraw (41515-1), Scorpi (41522-1), Wizwuz (41526-1) and Jamzy (41560-1) each have 70. Most sets draw on a shared pool of joints, claws and eye pieces in the tribe colour, so loose Mixels parts are easy to spot in a mixed box. Completing the full set is therefore a question of quantity rather than size.
