About The LEGO Ninjago Movie
A film with its own look
The film retold the story of Lloyd and his father Garmadon rather than following the television series, and it gave the ninja, their vehicles and their city a fresh design. The sets reflect that, so they form a distinct group within Ninjago with their own characters and style. Familiar names such as Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Nya and Master Wu all return, though with new designs and personalities shaped by the film.
The city sets
NINJAGO City (70620-1) is the largest set in the theme at 4,873 pieces. It is built as a tall stack of shops, flats and walkways and is aimed squarely at adult builders. NINJAGO City Docks (70657-1), released in 2018 with 3,555 pieces, connects to it and extends the scene towards the water. Together they are among the most detailed display models in the Ninjago world, and the parts lists show just how many small elements go into them.
Ships, temples and mechs
Destiny's Bounty (70618-1, 2,296 pieces) and Temple of The Ultimate Ultimate Weapon (70617-1, 1,403 pieces) are the other large builds. For play, the range leans on the ninjas' machines, each linked to one character's element: Quake Mech (70632-1, 1,202 pieces), Fire Mech (70615-1, 944 pieces), Ice Tank (70616-1, 914 pieces) and Lightning Jet (70614-1, 876 pieces). These mid-sized sets are sturdy enough to play with and still look good on display.
Collecting the range
With 35 sets across two years, the range is compact enough to collect in full. The mechs and vehicles work as a group for play, while the city sets are best left standing. If you already own some of the smaller sets, the parts lists show how much overlap there is with the larger ones.
