About Role Play Toys and Costumes
Heroes, jobs and monsters
Many costumes borrow from familiar play themes. In 2017 came the Construction Worker Costume (18461-1), the Fire Fighter Costume (18464-1) and the Vampire Costume (18247-1), covering everyday jobs as well as something spookier. The Batman Costume (14249-1) followed in 2018 for superhero fans. Because most outfits can be linked to a particular range of sets, they are of interest to people who collect everything connected with one theme, not only the brick-built models. Jobs like firefighting and construction are staples of the brick-built town sets, so these outfits connect directly with what many children already build.
Becoming a minifigure
Another group turns the wearer into a minifigure. The Minifigure Costume (14251-1) and the Minifigure Mask with Hands (14271-1), both from 2018, recreate the famous head and hands at human scale. The Iconic Black Hands (18629-1) from 2017 offer the distinctive claw-shaped grip on its own. These pieces are among the most recognisable items in the whole Gear range, the parent theme for accessories and merchandise.
Wands, props and park items
Not everything is a costume. The LEGOLAND Lighted Princess Wand (WAND-1) from 2021 is a light-up wand whose name points to the LEGOLAND parks. Props like this fill out the role-play side of the theme. Since these are textiles and toys rather than kits, the data records no pieces for the entries named here, so there are no parts lists to work from. The set numbers and years are still useful: they help you identify a costume found second-hand, or check which outfits exist for a favourite character before a party or school event.
