Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise (72153-1) dominates the theme with 6,838 pieces. It brings together the final evolutions of the three starter Pokémon from the original games, a trio that long-time players will recognise straight away. Pikachu and Poké Ball (72152-1) is the second-largest set at 2,050 pieces, pairing the franchise mascot with its most familiar item. Both are clearly intended for display rather than play, and they are the sets most likely to draw adult fans who grew up with the games and the trading cards.

Single Pokémon on the shelf

Several mid-sized sets focus on one creature. Arcanine (72160-1) uses 1,190 pieces, Rayquaza (72168-1) has 1,083 pieces and Munchlax (72150-1) comes in at 757 pieces. The choice spans very different shapes, from a four-legged fire dog to a long, coiling legendary dragon and a round, sleepy glutton, which gives builders plenty of variety in technique.

Battles in brick form

Other sets set up a fight between two Pokémon. Umbreon vs. Garchomp Championship Battle (72165-1) has 831 pieces, Cubone and Gengar's Spooky Showdown (72166-1) has 782 pieces and Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (72167-1) has 751 pieces. These scenes are closer in spirit to classic play sets, with two opponents facing each other. They sit between the small models and the big display pieces in size, which makes them a reasonable entry point for younger fans.
