From fan design to official set

Unlike most LEGO sets, the Vintage Roadster wasn't designed in-house; it came from a fan whose model was selected through the BrickLink Designer Program. The result is an open two-seater in the style of pre- and post-war classic roadsters, with a long bonnet and narrow body. For vehicle collectors, it's a rare chance to build a community design as an official set. The programme deliberately highlights building styles and proportions rarely seen in the regular LEGO range, such as that long, narrow tail.

Chrome look without real chrome

White and light bluish grey form the bodywork, while metallic silver pieces on the bumpers, headlights and wheels create a chrome-like impression without using any actual chrome elements. That combination gives the car its classic look, quite different from modern LEGO vehicles. Black pieces provide contrast on the tyres, hood and interior. The narrow, raised wheel arches also add to that classic profile, setting the model apart from modern vehicle sets.

Detail work under the bonnet

With 137 unique parts across 475 pieces, a lot of detail work goes into small areas such as the dashboard, steering wheel and spoked wheels. That variety shows in how many special pieces are used for a relatively compact body. The parts list on this page shows which pieces create the chrome look and which are more structural. Even the engine area beneath the long bonnet is suggested, which isn't a given for a set without opening panels.
