A rare sandy palette

Most Star Wars vehicles lean heavily on grey, but the AAT does not. Tan heads the colour list, with dark tan in second place and the two bluish greys following behind. That warm, sandy scheme matches the tanks as they appear on screen and makes this little set stand out among other small builds. It also means the parts are useful in a different way: tan and dark tan are ideal for desert scenery, rock faces and buildings.

The Battle of Naboo

In The Phantom Menace, the Trade Federation sends its droid army across the grassy plains of Naboo, and the AAT leads the advance against the Gungan forces. The tank hovers rather than rolls, with a wedge-shaped hull, a turret on top and a long main cannon. The same design returns in The Clone Wars, where AATs fight alongside battle droids against the Republic. A mini model keeps that recognisable wedge shape in simplified form.

Building it

With 24 distinct elements among its 46 pieces, the model offers a reasonable amount of variety for its size, so the build does not feel repetitive, even though the hull is largely symmetrical. It takes only a few minutes and results in a sturdy little tank that can be pushed across a table. There are no minifigures, but the model sits comfortably beside any battle droids or Gungans you may already own, and together with a small MTT it could form the start of a Naboo battle scene.
