Description

A forerunner of the Imperial shuttle

With its tall, folding wings, Palpatine's shuttle looks like an early version of the Imperial shuttles that appear later in the original trilogy. That visual link is part of its appeal: it sits right at the moment where the Republic becomes the Empire, and the ship design reflects that transition. Collectors who own both prequel and original trilogy sets will find that it bridges the two eras neatly on a shelf.

A dark errand

Near the end of Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine senses that his new apprentice is in danger and flies to the volcanic world of Mustafar. There he finds Anakin Skywalker badly injured after his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, and brings him back to be rebuilt as Darth Vader. Few journeys in the saga carry such weight, and this shuttle is the vehicle that makes it. With 4 minifigures, the set gives you the Emperor's party to stage the scene.

Clean lines, cool colours

Light bluish grey and white lead the palette, backed by black and dark bluish grey. It is a surprisingly bright scheme for the Emperor's personal transport, but the crisp, clinical look suits the formal order of the new Empire. From a parts point of view these colours are among the most useful you can have, since greys and whites turn up in nearly every spacecraft, station and modern building, and they rarely sit unused in a parts box for long.
