Description

A villain's flagship

The Malevolence comes from the animated series rather than the films. Early in The Clone Wars it hunts down Republic ships using a massive ion cannon that knocks out entire fleets, and the Jedi have to find a way to stop it. That storyline made the ship one of the best-remembered designs of the series, and it gives this set a clear identity. It is not a background cruiser but the flagship of one of the prequel era's most recognisable villains.

A darker palette

The main colours are light bluish grey, black, dark bluish grey and dark blue. Dark blue is an unusual choice for a large warship and gives the model a moody, sinister feel next to the red-marked Republic cruisers. On a shelf it reads as clearly Separatist. For your parts collection, the dark blue elements are a welcome extra, as that shade appears far less often in spaceship sets than grey or black. Good light helps while building, since dark blue and black can look similar.
