Where City Center fits

Town has been the everyday-life strand of the minifigure world since the late 1970s, covering police, fire, shops and traffic. City Center was one of its shorter sub-themes and arrived at a time when the range was being reshaped; the standalone City theme that most builders know today only launched some years later. That makes these 22 sets a neat snapshot of the late-1990s approach to town building, with fairly compact vehicles and buildings and a strong focus on emergency services and road work. Fire engines, a coastguard post and a roadside workshop all feature, which keeps the theme close to real town life.

A closer look at the line-up

The biggest box is Gas N' Wash Express (6472-1) from 2001, a 474-piece petrol station with a car wash. Highway Construction (6600-2) follows with 317 pieces, then Fire Fighters' HQ (6478-1) with 239 and Roadside Repair (6434-1) with 220. Further down the list you will find Firefighter's Lift Truck (6477-1, 114 pieces), Coastwatch (6433-1, 90 pieces) and Power Pitstop (6467-1, 71 pieces), plus the Tow-n-Go Value Pack (6468-1, 52 pieces).
