About Blacktron I

The first space outlaws

Before 1987, space sets were built around explorers and research crews. Blacktron changed the tone with sleek black craft, yellow details and transparent red canopies, crewed by minifigures in black uniforms. Fans have long read them as the first villains of the space world, a role reinforced when Space Police arrived to chase them. Blacktron I is a sub-theme of Space and was followed by Blacktron II from 1991, which kept the black base colour but introduced a new look. For many fans of the late-1980s space sets, it remains one of the most memorable looks of the era.

The largest model is Message Intercept Base from 1988, recorded in two versions: 6987-1 with 575 pieces and 6987-2 with 573. Renegade (6954-1, 1987) is the biggest spacecraft at 315 pieces.
