About Futuron
Space gets a new look
In 1987 the Space theme split into distinct lines for the first time. Blacktron took the darker side, while Futuron carried on the peaceful spirit of the earlier astronauts in a crisper blue-and-white livery. Its minifigures shared a common uniform design, which gave the crews a more organised, team-like feel than their Classic Space predecessors. The line stayed on shelves until 1990 and produced 19 sets in that time.
The monorail and the rest of the fleet
Monorail Transport System (6990-1) from 1988 is the centrepiece, with 731 pieces, stations and a motorised train running on raised track. Nothing else in the theme comes close: Stardefender 200 (6932-1) has 251 pieces, Interplanetary Rover (6925-1) 211 and Cosmic Laser Launcher (6953-1) 210. Orion II Hyperspace (6893-1, 162 pieces), Lunar Transporter Patroller (6770-1, 117), Aero Module (6884-1, 107) and Saturn Base Main Team (Crater Crawler) (6885-1, 101) fill out the middle of the range. Rebuilding the monorail needs its dedicated track and motor elements, so check the parts list on Bricoria before you start; the other sets rely mostly on standard bricks.
