About Ninjago
Ninjas, elements and a long-running series
The theme follows a team of young ninjas trained in Spinjitzu, each tied to an element and a signature colour: Lloyd, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Nya. An animated series has carried the story since the launch, and the sets track it closely, bringing new villains, vehicles and locations with each season. In 2017 the theatrical film added its own run of sets, grouped here as the sub-theme The LEGO Ninjago Movie.
NINJAGO City and other flagships
Over time the theme has produced some very large display models. NINJAGO City Markets (71799-1) from 2023 tops the list at 6,163 pieces, with NINJAGO City Gardens (71741-1) from 2021 close behind at 5,710. NINJAGO City Workshops (71837-1) followed in 2025 with 3,247 pieces, and Tournament Temple City (71814-1) from 2024 has 3,490. For the fifteenth anniversary in 2026, The Old Town 15th Anniversary (71861-1) arrived with 4,852 pieces.
Beyond the city
Temples and dragons are the other recurring subjects. Temple of Airjitzu (70751-1) from 2015 reached 2,033 pieces, The Temple Bounty (71848-1) from 2025 has 2,388, and Ultra Dragon Battle (71872-1) from 2026 has 2,178. These are the exceptions, though; most of the range consists of smaller play sets aimed at children. Smaller sets are also where new characters and vehicles usually appear first, so they matter just as much to anyone following the storyline.
