About Speed Champions

The six-wide years

The early cars were built six studs wide and often came as part of larger scenes rather than on their own. That is why the three biggest sets in the theme date from before 2020. F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck (75913-1) arrived in the first year with 892 pieces, and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team (75883-1) from 2017 holds the record at 963 pieces. Ferrari Ultimate Garage (75889-1) from 2018 adds a full garage and reaches 856.

Eight studs wide from 2020

In 2020 the cars grew to eight studs wide, which left room for more accurate proportions and more detailed interiors. Newer large sets tend to be two-car packs. Mercedes-AMG G 63 & Mercedes-AMG SL 63 (76924-1) from 2024 has 811 pieces, BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars (76922-1) from the same year has 676, and Jaguar Project 7 & Land Rover Defender (77264-1) from 2026 comes to 747. The change also means that older and newer cars look noticeably different in size when parked side by side, something to keep in mind if you are planning a display.

Old meets new

Pairing a modern car with a historic one is a recurring idea. Ford F-150 Raptor & Ford Model A Hot Rod (75875-1) from 2016, with 672 pieces, puts a pickup next to a hot rod, and Porsche 919 Hybrid and 917K Pit Lane (75876-1), with 743 pieces, does something similar with two racing Porsches from different eras. The compact size makes it realistic to line up a whole grid on one shelf, and the parts lists help you check stickers and coloured panels on used cars.
