1990s
About Toolo
Early years: 1992–1993
The first sets were working vehicles. Fire Truck (2940-1, 34 pieces), Mobile Crane (2930-1, 29 pieces) and Digger (2920-1, 21 pieces) all appeared in 1992. In 1993 came Construction Site (2950-1), which at 50 pieces remains the largest set in the theme. Building sites and machinery suit the screw-together idea well, since children can take the models apart and rebuild them much as a mechanic would.
Later sets: 1995–1996
By 1995 the range had broadened. Space Center (2945-1, 49 pieces) took Toolo off the road entirely, while Tool Box (2960-1, 44 pieces) and Starter Set (1814-1, 23 pieces) focused on the tools and fixings themselves. Fire Engine (2935-1, 37 pieces) followed in 1996, giving the theme a second fire vehicle four years after the first.
Buying Toolo today
Screws and screwdrivers are small and easily lost, so used sets are often incomplete. Check the parts list on each set page before you buy to see exactly what should be in the box. Standard Duplo bricks from other sets still attach to Toolo parts, so incomplete lots can be combined with ordinary bricks.
