About Early Creator
Before three-in-one
Today Creator is closely associated with sets that rebuild into three models. Its first incarnation was looser. Buckets and boxes supplied a broad mix of basic bricks, often with a few suggestions to get started, and left the rest to the builder. Titles such as Imagine and Build or Build and Create make the intention clear. For a generation of children these tubs were the foundation of their collection. The range was built for children who wanted to start without a plan, and for parents looking for a solid base of bricks.
Round numbers at the top
Piece counts in this theme tend to be tidy figures. Build Your Dreams (4107-1) from 2002 leads with exactly 1,000 pieces, while Build and Create (7837-1) has 600. The year 2002 alone produced four sets of exactly 500 pieces: Imagine and Build (4105-1), Large Red Bucket (4106-1), Large Creator Box (4179-1) and Creator Bucket (7825-1). Such round numbers are a reminder that these were assortments first and models second.
Vehicles and stories
Not everything was a plain assortment. Fun and Cool Transportation (4120-1) from 2001 gathers 609 pieces around cars and other vehicles, and Building Stories with NaNa Bird (4177-1), also from 2001, puts storytelling in its title across 385 pieces.
